Beach Version of CA Raisin Campaign
This month, THREE campaigns won awards in the 2012 International Photography Awards competition announced in October: California Raisins Campaign that shot this summer, Joffrey Ballet Company’s advertising campaign, and a fine-art commissioned piece for the new LurieChildren’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
California Raisins
The idea behind the campaign is: raisins mature and get better (and sweeter) in the sun . . . so do kids. And so we shot a series of three images around Chicago parks and beach fronts, rounding out some of the images with CGI. We brought a 15-foot trampoline into the studio to shoot the children for the Double Dutch shot, but then found it so successful, we used it for the kids on the beach and the skateboarder, too. Joffrey Ballet
Three narrative compositions representing Kurt Jooss’ The Green Table, Twyla Tharp’s Nine Sinatra Songs, and Shakespeare’s Othello. This year’s campaign is a departure for the company in terms of scale and composition. Each image is set off-stage in stylized narrative worlds and composed from iconic Chicago locations. Birds of Breath — A commission for Chicago Children’s Memorial Hopspital
Birds of Breath
Birds of Breath, which was commissioned for the Cystic Fibrosis floor in collaboration with Redmoon Theater. The idea behind the image was to create an extremely rich composition that would allow family members and patients a hopeful distraction from the happenings of the floor. Birds is a composite of more than two-hundred mourning doves in flight and rest, shot individually in studio and placed throughout the image. The tree—shaped like bronchial tubes of the lungs—was a scale model and skinned with actual photographs of bark. The hills are simply photographs taken from Chicago’s Humboldlt Park. (Read / See More)
